Rare Beauty Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation Review - dry skin type, asian skin tone

When Selena Gomez launched this brand, I was seeing review videos left and right on every platform. I personally love to watch review videos but I couldn't really gauge whether it was an amazing product online, since reviews were either stellar or underwhelming, so I decided to try it out myself. Currently due to covid, Sephora is not giving out samples of foundations, which would have saved me a lot of time *spoiler alert* but they accept returns so I thought I might as well try.

The foundation retails for 38 CAD, for 30mL/1oz of product, which is a good price for a standard amount of product. It seems like this brand was curated with lots of details in mind, and I love its overall image; natural with pops of colour.
I have dry skin and I get a little oily around my T-zone throughout the day. For my skintone (light/medium asian skintone with neutral/warm undertones) the shade 180W fit perfectly while I've lost my tan. The packaging is very crisp and chic, and the ball on top of the cap is to make it easier to twist open for those with joint problems. The foundation comes with a big doe-foot applicator which I found very easy to use as I'm able to control how much product I'm applying.
Claims: "A weightless foundation with concentrated pigments that feels barely there while providing buildable medium-to-full coverage with a natural finish. With a botanical blend of lotus, gardenia, and water lily, it calms and nourishes skin for comfortable long wear in 48 shades". It is recommended to shake the foundation very well before using it, and for those with dry skin to use a hydrating primer underneath.

Shade is good, claims sound great, I decided to give this foundation a few tries before coming to a final conclusion.

Attempt 1 - Applied after regular skin prep and sunscreen (as I do day-to-day), with a buffing brush.
Provided good coverage and after some streakiness, it did look pretty good, but after it set I could see that it clung to my textured spots on my forehead and nose. After I finished all my makeup, I noticed it was already starting to settle into my smile lines, which does not happen very much with my regular foundation and concealers.
You can see in the photos below, it looks good from afar from close up you can see my texture and smile lines being emphasized.

Attempt 2 - Applied with an extra hydrating moisturizer and sunscreen, with a sponge.
Generally with a sponge, I found that it blended out easier, and didn't cling to my dry patches as much, so it looked decent. But this time, the foundation didn't last long and was basically slipping off my face and settling into lines again within a few hours of being inside the house.

Attempt 3 - Applied after regular skin prep, Weleda skinfood as a primer, and with a brush.
Tried to even out the amount of moisture and dryness on my face, but this specific day it just didn't look very good as it settled into lines again, and made my face look lack-lustre.

In conclusion, I really wanted to make this foundation work since everytime I applied it I did love how weightless it felt on my skin, but in the end I didn't find it worth it to have if I had to do all these steps to make it look decent. These are all my personal thoughts and opinions, I am in no way saying that this is a bad product so if you find that people with your similar skin type like the foundation, consider trying it out!

I am still really interested in trying out the liquid blushes, though, so maybe in the future I will.
